Ecuador & North Peruvian Wanderer Quito - Lima

Trip Overview

Ecuador is all about its Andean heartland and its pristine Amazon jungle and its cities house some of South America’s finest colonial masterpieces. Both Quito and Cuenca, home of the Panama hat, have the most beautiful churches and plazas on the continent. Ecuador is best known for the Galapagos, and if you start or finish this tour in Quito, you must try to add on a trip to the islands.

The Ecuadorian Andes are both verdant and magnificent and it is well worth spending time, trekking, climbing or rafting here before heading into the rain forests of the Amazon.

Crossing into Northern Peru, you leave the greenery behind you and head into dry deserts with the ancient civilisations and monuments of the Moche and the Chimu Indians; Indeed Chan Chan , capital of the Chimu’s is the largest Adobe city in the world. Towering above the desert are the mighty Cordillera of the snow capped Andes, ideal for trekking in the Huaraz region.

This trip visits the Huasquila Ecolodge, which promote ecotourism in the area.

Our lodge is a great example of eco-tourism, built and run by the local community and volunteers, who work to re-forest the reserve land at the lodge with native trees and medicinal plants. The lodge is set in secondary and primary rainsforest, an area at risk of deforestation.

We will stay in a comfortable ecolodge with meals included.

Estimated Drive Time - 4-5 hours (please note that all drive times given here are the approximate number of hours that the truck will be in motion only, and does not include any time taken for coffee or lunch stops, border crossings, photo stops, activities en route, comfort breaks, shopping stops, toilet stops, etc. The times given are approximate estimates only and whilst given with the best of intentions, the drive times are heavily dependent on traffic, road conditions, weather, police roadblocks, and many other factors - flexibility is essential on any overland trip!).

REVIEWS FROM OUR PASSENGERS

The trekking up Laguna 69 and the Quilota Volcano were excellent, as of course were both the excellent crew and fellow travellers.
Simon J
Overlanding may not be for everyone as it is very much a shared travelling experience. This was our second trip with Dragoman after hopping off the truck in Santiago and travelling independently for a couple of months before re-joining the same truck in Lima. As before, we very much enjoyed the whole journey and also the wonderful crew and fellow travellers, who are all now active personal friends on social media well after the trip.
Simon J
Very good as usual.

As a trio I beleive Rachel Jaime and Rich were a very good team as they all brought very different qualities to the job.
