Carbon Offsetting

Carbon Offsetting

We believe that the surest way to prevent global warming is to reduce our carbon emissions in the first place; be it through reducing flying or stopping the destruction of forests through partnerships with local communities. If you would like to help compensate for some of the effects of your journey then you might consider supporting charities such as Cool Earth  or the Woodland Trust which is engaged with planting trees and leading the plans for the new Northern Forest in the UK.

What we are doing to Carbon Offset

We do offset the carbon emissions in the long haul flights that our office and workshop staff take by donating £5 per single long haul flight to Cool Earth. In 2018 we donated £220 and in 2019 we donated £355.

To offset the emissions used to make our brochures we donate 1p per brochure to the Woodland Trust. In 2018 we donated £300 and in 2019 we donated £165. The Dragoman brochure is also available to view online or also to download digitally.

Carbon dioxide is the most significant of the greenhouse gases that trap solar heat and warm the global climate. Although predictions are difficult to make it is clear that the planet is warming which will lead to sea level rises and huge changes in climate and vegetation patterns.  In addition increasing amounts of carbon dioxide are being dissolved in our oceans making them more acidic and thus depleting the biodiversity of our oceans.

Changing how we travel

Flying is the most carbon intensive way to travel. Whilst we accept that most of our travellers fly to the destination and travelling in our trucks also creates carbon emissions, the individual carbon footprint is significantly less when travelling overland in a shared vehicle rather than flying between destinations. We suggest you make it count by taking fewer holidays with flights but to fly direct and stay longer.

We are aware that some travel companies budget a donation into the cost of their trips to enable them to offset the carbon emissions of their customers.  However, we would prefer to let you decide how much and to which organisation you would like to donate.
