Dragoman has been travelling in the slow lane for 37 years and so are loving the trend for “slow travel” that has been highlighted in a recent Travel Trends report by ABTA. The travel association’s 2020 report highlights five key trends for 2020 with the rise of “slow travel” at the top of the list. ABTA is seeing holidaymakers choosing to slow down the tempo of their holidays and experience destinations on a deeper level – making more genuine connections with local people and cultures along the way. “Slow travel” is as much about enjoying the journey as it is…

The Naadam Festival is Mongolia’s biggest event and a major holiday celebrated primarily in Ulaanbaatar every July. Also known as ‘the three games of men’, the celebrations are built around three nomadic sports: archery, horse racing, and Mongolian wrestling. As well as the sporting competitions, the Naadam Festival also features many other cultural activities, not least among them the opening and closing ceremonies at the Naadam Stadium, which feature colourful marches…

Dragoman's Operations Manager Helen walked the Wild Andes Trek to Machu Picchu, Dragoman's alternative to the overcrowded thoroughfares of the Classic Inca Trail. Read all about it below. A visit to the mysterious citadel of Machu Picchu is the highlight of most people’s visit to Peru, but with so many travellers visiting the area, sometimes it can be a challenge to get away from the crowds and Dragoman's ethos is to get off the beaten track.  In 2013, together with our local partners, Dragoman designed and launched a new trek travelling on the old Inca trails, through a remote region of the…

If you’re visiting China for the first time, it can be a pretty intense cultural experience. It’s a vast country, with huge cities and sweeping landscapes, not to mention an enormous population. Whether it’s architecture, history, culture, or natural splendour, China doesn’t do things by halves; think the Great Wall, the giant Buddha at Leshan, the snow-capped peaks at Tiger Leaping Gorge, the sacred mountain of Emei Shan, and the Forbidden City in Beijing. To help take the edge off the overwhelm, here’s a few things to bear in mind before your overland trip to China.   You need a…

Emerging from the airport I met two of my fellow travellers and we shared a transfer, chatting away to easily break the ice. Approaching Vic Falls Rest Camp, I immediately spotted the big orange truck I’ve…
