Perhaps most famous as being the ancient homeland of the Inca civilisation, Peru is is a wonderland of historical treasures and home to some of South America's most glorious landmarks, including the spectacular ancient hilltop city of Machu Picchu, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. It also has a wide range of outdoor activities, from trekking in Cuzco to white-water rafting in Arequipa to sandboarding in the Huacachina Deserts, and a distinctive cuisine, including lomo saltado, maize soup, and of course the delicious ceviche on the coast.

Travel here and you could be cruising along the Amazon through the dense Brazilian jungle, trekking through the awe-inspiring scenery of Patagonia’s national parks, discovering the fascinating ancient history of the Incas at the ruins of Machu Picchu, riding across the pampas with local gauchos in Argentina or practicing your salsa steps in a steamy bar in Colombia.
