Katie has been on the road with us since 2012, we caught up with her to ask a few probings questions about life on the road with Dragoman...
Why did you become Dragoman crew?
It was to travel. I realised I was never going to get to all of the places that I wanted to travel to unless I got involved in the tourism industry as I simply didn't get enough time off.
What’s your favourite destination and why?
Difficult question! Argentina. It has everything except an accent I can understand. Good food, good wine, stunning mountains and glaciers, estancias, great cities and the End of the World! Kyrgyzstan comes close though... and Colombia... and Myanmar... and Nepal... and... and...
What’s the best thing about working as Dragoman crew?
Seeing so many different countries and cultures that are off the beaten path, and getting to share the adventures along the way! Taking passengers out of their comfort zone, and seeing them gain confidence as they get experiences of a lifetime.
What’s the oddest thing you’ve ever eaten or drunk?
For me, this even beat trying chickens feet and scorpions in China. Bulls testicle shashlik in Uzbekistan - we got a skewer for the table...
Funniest/best Dragoman moment?
There's too many to choose just one! A memorable one in the last 12 months was being stuck on a boat on the Caspian Day for 5 days... it was supposed to be 2 days but Turkmenistan wouldn't let the boat dock. It's an experience that will stay with me forever, and I'm glad I had a great group of passengers to share it with (and some Georgian wine for sanity)!
What’s the one must-have item in your backpack?
Personally my glasses/contact lenses. I find it helps with the driving.
Best piece of advice you can pass on to future passengers?
Come with an open mind and go with the flow!
What's the one luxury item you take with you?
