Dragoman has just launched its first ever ‘Friends and Family Holidays’ brochure to showcase its family adventures and private charter trips.

As well as including five Asia family adventures (short, non-truck trips which include a variety of transport and accommodation, including homestays), the brochure heralds the launch of a new concept for Dragoman and its passengers: the private charter.

Specially designed for families and special interest groups such as photography or sporting fans, gap year adventurers or those wanting to mark a special occasion such as a birthday, reunion or anniversary, the new trips allow exclusive groups of up to 21 people to charter a purpose-built, Mercedes Benz truck along with the services of 3 crew members including an African camp master.

The new private charter product range, which is generally suitable for children aged between 6 - 16 years, includes three Africa overlanding trips: a 16 days ‘Chimps & Gorillas’ trip in Kenya and Uganda; a 14 days ‘The Big Five’ trip, also in Kenya and Uganda and; a 16 days ‘Wildlife & Beaches’ trip in Kenya and Tanzania.

Each trip is carbon offset and contributes to the sustainable development of local communities. And, in keeping with the Dragoman overlanding philosophy of ‘adventure by day, comfort by night’, accommodation is split 50/50 between camping and hotels.

The costs of a private charter range from between £11,000 (approximately £524 per person) and £13,000 (approximately £619 per person) depending on dates. A local kitty of between US$840 - US$1240 per person is also payable.

Departures can be arranged in school holidays (or not!).

Private Charter Trips

The 14 days Kenya and Uganda adventure, ‘The Big Five’, lets passengers get up close and personal with some of the most amazing wildlife in Africa: elephant, rhino, buffalo lion and leopard. Chimpanzees, the elusive and rare white rhino and the spectacular scenery of the White Nile are also highlights, along with a stay at an eco-tourism site in Budongo forest. The 16 days ‘Wildlife & Beaches’ trip in Kenya and Tanzania. An unforgettable private safari, passengers will explore two of the world’s greatest game reserves, the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater, spend time in and around the foothills of Kilimanjaro learning about the local people in a village education community project and relax on the beautiful Indian Ocean beaches of Zanzibar, the spice island. Again, the trip is suitable for children aged 6 years and over.

The 16 days Chimps & Gorillas trip to Kenya and Uganda. As well as travelling through quintessential safari country in Kenya, passengers will get far off the beaten track in Uganda where one of the most challenging but rewarding wildlife encounters has to be the countries’ mountain gorillas. Trekking though primary rainforest, they’ll not only have the chance to see chimpanzees but, ultimately, the silverbacks and family gorilla groups in their home environment (Bwindi National Park). Please note that this trip is not suitable for children less than 16 years of age.
