Thailand is an excellent choice for those looking for variation

One of the great things about an overland adventure is that you get to travel around a country or region and see everything it has to offer, rather than having to stay put in a single destination.

And nowhere will you appreciate this more than when you travel south east Asia and see the incredible mix of cultures and landscapes that make up this part of the world.

According to travel expert Bob Atkinson of travelsupermarket.com, Thailand offers a great example of the variety of the region.

He explained that the Thai capital Bangkok is consistently the comparison site's most searched for flight destination, largely because the country offers something for everyone.

"It appeals to all different types of holidaymakers whether they be younger backpackers, through to people who are looking for luxury high-end spa resorts and everything between," he said.

"You can pretty much guarantee decent weather in some parts of the country at any time you go.," he added. "Obviously some places are wetter than others while others are dry, but you can always find somewhere in Thailand where the weather is good as it has a range of microclimates."

One of the most remarkable things about Thailand is the range of different natural and manmade landscapes the country contains, from idyllic beaches to remote and lively, bustling cities such as Bangkok.

"Thailand offers everything from tropical style beaches through to big cities with shopping and things like that in Bangkok," said Mr Atkinson.

"You have got the northern area bordering places like Laos and Cambodia which is where you have the flora and fauna and the jungle type area.

"It's got a bit of everything, plus it's a big stop-off destination as well for people going to the Far East and on to Australia and New Zealand."
