..... Responsible Tourism Company of the Year
AITO is pleased to announce the winners of its Responsible Tourism Company of the Year award. Long recognised as a leader in Responsible Tourism, AITO membership rules require that every member agrees to appoint a Responsible Tourism Manager who ensures adoption of guidelines set by the organisation.
AITO operates a recognition system in the field of Responsible Tourism consisting of between one and three stars for all member companies. Three stars is the top achievement and indicates that a company has fully integrated Responsible Tourism into all aspects of its business and destination work. Currently 19 companies meet these high standards and can lay claim to the coveted three stars. Further recognition is granted courtesy of AITO’s Responsible Tourism Awards.
AITO Today announces Dragoman Overland as the winner of the prestigious Responsible Tourism Company of the Year award. Founded over 40 years ago Dragoman Overland epitomises the very ideals of Responsible Tourism with the creation of a policy statement, tourism guidelines and a strong commitment to local community projects. Dragoman Overland passengers can expect that at least 55% of their money will stay in the destination country as the company aims to benefit its hosts and share the skills of its passengers, in a positive and rewarding way. Dragoman runs truck-based adventure travel trips carrying groups of travellers to exotic and awe-inspiring destinations; it creates an authentic overland experience throughout the world.
Other AITO companies highly commended for their work in Responsible Tourism were Nomadic Thoughts and Tribes, both excellent examples of companies dedicated to improving the environment, communities and cultures in countries where they operate.
To ensure that the AITO programme is kept fully up to date, a dedi cated Responsible Tourism committee of members and advisors review progress and help to keep AITO at the forefront of thinking.
