Geoff B returns from a 24 week journey across Africa

Dear Drago....

Thanks for an epic journey

I'm writing, very belatedly I know, to say many thanks to Dragoman for one of the best travel experience of my life.

Back in early 2004 I went to one of your slide shows in London covering Latin America. As well as wanting to go there, I also wanted to meet your tour leaders to find out about the types of people who travel with you and whether I would fit in.

Suitably reassured, I then signed up for a six-month trip in Africa (no I can't remember how South America changed to Africa!), starting in Cape Town and ending in Accra, Ghana.

I joined the tour on 23rd August 2004 and by the 25th I was writing an email back home saying that any trepidation I'd had about the trip had already gone and “now I feel totally at ease, with the whole of Africa stretching before me. I couldn't feel happier”.

And it just got better. I congratulate you on the way the trips were paced, with a good mixture of activities and times to take it easy. The game viewing, spectacular scenery and the local people all made for a fantastic trip. The involvement in community projects is a fine and very important part of your journeys. I'll never forget the welcome at Kariandusi Primary School and the privilege of going back there to donate a wheelbarrow and educational aids bought by contributions from the people on the truck. But one big contributory factor in my enjoyment of the journey was your people on the ground. Special mention has to go to Kara Gordon, who stayed behind in Addis Ababa to sort visas out for me, Danny Chamberlain, the co-driver on the Cape to Nairobi legs, and Denford Tiriwangasi our cook on the same part of the journey, both of whom were great company. The star of the show though was Prue Pike who was just simply the best, most professional tour leader I've travelled with. It was really sad to say goodbye to both Prue and Kara in Cairo after so many months on the road.

So many, many thanks Dragoman for such a great trip. I'll definitely be overlanding with you again. Maybe I'll even get to South America when I've got Africa out of my system.

Yours sincerely

Geoff B.

The Kariandusi Primary School that Geoff mentions is a community Project that Dragoman Overland is involved in. This year we are responsible for raising approximately £50,000 for the charity. Three of our trips spend time visiting the school

We have a great picture show of the route, click here tthe aerial walkways in Kakum National Park in Ghana. Please note, we are currently flying over the section from Khartoum to Accra because of the troubles in Darfur, but the journey is still possible.

Geoff is travelling with us again next year for 14 days our Great Apes and Gameparks from Nairobi to Kampala. This is our shortest trip in East Africa and takes you to see the gorillas in Rwanda. It will be great to have back again Geoff
