Beaches & Jungles Of West Africa (TLW)

From: $2550.00+ Kitty

Overview

34 days between Accra and Douala or vice versa...

Travel in West Africa is often challenging and you'll need a well-developed sense of adventure to overland through the region. Beginning on Ghana's coast you’ll head for Togo, where voodoo is still very much a way of life. Crossing this long, thin country to Benin you’ll stay in a stilt village, visit Ouidah, a poignant former slaving port, and explore Abomey, the former royal capital. It gets even more adventurous as you cross into Nigeria, visiting a wildlife reserve and heading up to the Jos Plateau. You’ll travel right the way across this African giant, skirting the edge of the Afi Mountains – home to drill monkeys, gorillas and chimpanzees – before crossing the border into Cameroon, overlanding through the rainforest on mud roads to Douala and the end of this epic trip.

Comments

Nigeria Contingency

You may already be aware that the British Foreign and Commonwealth office (FCO) are currently advising against all but essential travel to certain regions in Nigeria. This advice unfortunately includes Yankari National Park and Jos so for that reason we have therefore decided to not visit these places on this itinerary.

Please visit http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-living-abroad/travel-advice-by-country/sub-saharan-africa/nigeria for full advice on Nigeria.

Instead the itinerary will visit Pendjari National Park and the surrounding region in North Western Benin, known for its wildlife and is home to some of the last populations of big game like elephants, West African lions, hippopotamuses, buffalo and various antelopes in West Africa. The Park is also famous for its richness in birds.

If however in the meantime if the FCO advice changes its advice to all clear on travel to this region our itinerary will of course follow the scheduled route.
