Not only will you be meeting some of the Omo Valley’s remarkable tribal groups, such as the Hamer, who practice bull jumping as an initiation rite, and the Bana and Abore people, but, by raising the money required to secure your place on this one-off trip, you’ll be helping some of the 70,000 children and young people in crisis who contact ‘Get Connected’, the UK charity’s free and confidential helpline each year.
The trip costs £875 plus kitty for group payments (approximately US$400, click MORE INFO for latest price), with an additional £500 donation going to Get Connected. Dragoman can also help arrange flights, costing approximately £450, and adequate insurance cover, resulting in a total cost of around £1,900 per participant.![]()
Get Connected are also encouraging Matt and participants to raise additional funds via Matt's own fundraising page at justgiving.com/getconnectedgapyah
Accompanied by Matt and two of Dragoman’s expert overland crew, you’ll be venturing to places that are only really accessible by 4WD. Other trip highlights include: visiting the slopes of Mt Kenya; visiting the Samburu National Park for game viewing; overlanding across the black lunar semi-desert landscape and green mountain scenery peppered by termite mounds en route to the Ethiopia border; exploring the markets of the Konso people in Konzo; relaxing in Arba Minch, where the more adventurous can visit the government run Crocodile Farm; taking a boat trip out on Lake Chamo National Park; visiting the Awassa Children’s Project (an organisation dedicated to the welfare and education of those children orphaned by the AIDS epidemic) and relaxing in the hot springs at Wendo Genet before the trip ends in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital city.![]()
Matt Lacey says:
"Travelling is a passion that my online character, Orlando, and I both share. I'm hoping that as many people as possible will have fun supporting this incredible charity whilst being able to experience up-close cultural encounters with some of the most fascinating tribes on the planet."
It's estimated that the money raised by the trip will help the charity support over 1000 young people.
