Quito is the second-highest capital in South America after La Paz, and although it lies directly on the Equator the altitude ensures a pleasant climate all year. Heading out of the city we'll make for the Indian town of Otavalo, known for its handicrafts, before visiting the Amazon for a stay in a jungle lodge. Crossing the Andes we make for Peru's Pacific Coast, exploring ancient Moche sites before heading inland to the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. After a trip to Lake Titicaca we cross into Bolivia, overlanding across the Altiplano en route to Argentina's stunning Lake District.
