We are very proud to have been consistently awarded the prestigious AITO (Association of Independent Tour Operators) 5* Sustainable Tourism Achievement Award - one of only a handful of operators to do so. This means we have gone above and beyond the minimum sustainable tourism requirements expected by AITO including implementation of sustainable office practice, communication with customers, environmental practice, communication with customers and practical destination activity.
AITO granted us the achievement award in recognition of our company wide commitment to RT, and specifically for the hands-on work involved in our community-based tourism project in Peru, the 'Tarpuy Yachay' Community Trek. The project is an integral part of our unique and pioneering Community Inca Trail alternative to the classic 'Inca Trail'; centred on remote communities situated high in the Peruvian Andes near Urabamba. The project initially kicked off in 2005 and continues to go from strength to strength. In 2013 we embarked on a new route in order to reach different communities that were also in need of assistance.
If you want to take part in this trek and contribute to the community take a look at any of our overland trips in South America that visit Cuzco.
