Luggage

What type of luggage do I need?

We recommend you use a backpack or a soft bag rather than a suitcase, because although you won’t have to carry it long distances you’ll need to help load and unload it.
We also recommend a small daypack to carry your camera, water bottle and other personal effects for daily use.

Storage

Your main luggage will be kept in the back locker, but most travellers keep their daypacks on board the truck, where we have over-head hangers to store them.
Size and weight restrictions

Baggage size is limited by the locker space on trucks, which varies from truck to truck.
With this in mind, we recommend your bag be no larger than 66cm deep, 30cm wide and 30cm high.

The weight limit for luggage on all trucks is maximum 20kg.
Backpacks should not have an external frame unless it can be easily removed and stored separately to avoid damaging other peoples’ luggage.

Clothing

Your clothes and equipment should be appropriate for the conditions you are travelling in.

On overland trips, we’ll provide all camping equipment apart from sleeping bags and ground mats (except on routes between Nairobi and Cape Town where ground mats are provided).
